समाज में महिलाओं की महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारी होती है। महिलाएं समाज की रीढ़ होती हैं और विभिन्न क्षेत्रों जैसे परिवार, अर्थव्यवस्था, राजनीति और संस्कृति में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाती हैं। समाज में महिलाओं की भूमिका बहुआयामी होती है जिसमें वे परिवार की देखभाल से लेकर आर्थिक विकास, शिक्षा और सामाजिक प्रगति में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान देती हैं। भारतीय इतिहास में कई महिलाओं ने विपरीत परिस्थितियों का सामना करते हुए सत्ता में आकर समाज से सम्मान और सम्मान प्राप्त किया है आजादी के बाद महिलाओं का समाज में सम्मान बढ़ा, लेकिन उनके सशक्तिकरण की गति दशकों तक धीमी रही। गरीबी व निरक्षरता महिलाओं की प्रगति में गंभीर बाधा रही हैं। गुणवत्तापूर्ण शिक्षा और कौशल के माध्यम से महिलाओं को व्यवसाय की ओर प्रोत्साहित कर इन्हे आर्थिक रूप से सुदृढ़ किया जा सकता है। 19वीं सदी में महिलाओं ने शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य और कामकाजी परिस्थितियों जैसे कई क्षेत्रों में सक्रिय रूप से अभियान चलाया। वे महिलाओं के अधिकारों में बदलाव चाहती थीं और लिंगों के बीच समानता स्थापित करना चाहती थीं। यह महिलाओं के इतिहास में एक प्रभावशाली विकास था। 19वीं सदी के अंत तक, नारीवाद को महिलाओं के अधिकारों की वकालत करने वाले व्यक्तियों के एक समूह के रूप में मान्यता मिल गई थी।
